Blackening of his face, massive protests and a subsequent arrest on Thursday have come as repercussions for the instant fame that he had attained during the past one year due to his apparently lunatic statements that had gone viral on YouTube, his violent outburst against a fellow contender in BiG Boss Season 3 that led to his eviction and now his detention on charges of making derogatory remarks against the Father of Indian Constitution Dr B R Ambedkar in a live programme on a vernacular television channel. Based on a complaint filed by a Dalit association, Venkat was arrested on Thursday and has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.Venkat who had hit the hall of fame due to his weird mannerisms and volatile temperament in the latest season of BiG Boss had almost become a darling of a large section of people in Karnataka and also some sections of media. However, all the hell broke loose on Wednesday night when Venkat’s signature slang “Nan Yekda” (my footwear) hit the wrong targets-Dr B R Ambedkar and the constitution of India. Thus goes the event which led to his braindead reaction. The live discussion in the channel focussed of safety of women in Bangalore following recent incidents of rapes. Venkat came out with his chivalrous statement that the rapists should be hanged. When the anchor told him that our constitution did not have such penal measures against rapists his apparent ignorant question was, “Who framed the Constitution?” When she replied his reaction was, “My foot to the constitution and its creator!” This created an instant outrage among a large section of viewers and one of them Yadanand K R immediately launched a complaint with the Jnanabharathi Police Station. It did not take much time for the situation to turns volatile in the City, when Venkat was on his way back home from the channel studio some Dalit activists waylaid his car, spilt ink on his face and assaulted him with interludes of abuses and demand to alight from the car. This was followed by protests by an angry mob in front of his house in Indiranagar.About 150 students from Bangalore University blocked Mysore Road demanding Huccha Venkat’s immediate arrest. The police brought the situation under control while the Dalit Sangarsha Samithi protested in front of the High Grounds Police Station before lodging another complaint against him. The complaint stated that Venkat should be booked under SC/ST Act and also under sectionx 153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) of the Indian Penal Code. The High grounds police said that the matter is being investigated by the Jurisdictional Assistant Commissioner of Police.
