The clash started with some miscreants hurling stones towards the stage set to address the protestors. The stones hit a few people including Bantwal Circle Inspector Belliyappa. However, no major injuries are reported. Some shops were vandalised by the miscreants. But the incident created tension in B C Road and nearby Bantwal and Kaikamba and all the shops and establishments shut down. Police brought the situation control by resorting to lathi charge. Police sources said that the stones were pelted when speakers at the programme allegedly commented on the functioning of Pro Hindu organisations. However, the situation reverted to normal in a few hours, they added. Police in Bantwal town station said that the situation was handled and investigations are on. Senior officials including Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrit Paul have directed the police to find out the reason for the clash and the perpetrators.
