He shared his thoughts and some experiences with the budding fashion designers and critiqued their collections at a brief interaction in the department. As a word of advice he suggested the students to take inspiration from “Our roots”, the Indian traditions and culture, focus more on the work of Indian designers, and bring out their soul in the collections. He said, “No one can get better the essence of Kashmir other than Rohit Bal, West Bengal than Sabyasachi, and Goa than himself”. Explaining his design philosophy he emphasized on the fact that his collections target to bring out the essence of Goa by the use of the colours, materials etc., inspired from the sea, sand and surf. He also laid emphasis on the importance of finishing in the garments, advising that the collections should be made in a way that the garments are as wearable inside out as normal. Rodricks also recollected some excerpts from his successful career as a designer citing his experiences with the resort wear, eco-friendly textiles and collections with minimalistic details at a time when couture in India meant silk and embroidery. He was awarded the title “Guru of Minimalism” having started his venture in 1992.
