Prof Chinnappa Gowda is the New VC of Folk University

Submitted by Newseditor on Sun, 2015-11-08 13:49 Bengaluru: The Governor and Chancellor of the Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya has appointed Kannada litterateur and linguistic professor K Chinnappa Gowda of Mangalore University, Mangaluru as the Vice Chancellor of the Karnataka Janapada Vishwavidyalaya, Gotagodi, Haveri for a period of four years. Earlier Prof K Chinnappa had served as Registrar, Mangalore University, as Director, Directorate of Student Welfare, a member of Yakshagana Study Centre, Mangalore University, Karnataka State Tulu Sahithya Academy and Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy. He is also specialized in various subjects and has done researches on Ancient and Modern Kannada Literature, Tulu Literature, Folklore and Cultural Studies. He has also successfully guided 11 PhD and five M.Phil students. He is acclaimed for his works-Bhootaaradhane: Kelavu Adhyayanagalu, Jaalaata, Bhoothaaraadhane-Jaanapadiiya Adhyayana, Samskrithi Siri, and The Mask and The Message. He has edited 25 books. A special mention may be made of: The Siri Epic-As sung by Gopala Naik (Two Volumes) and The Retrieved Acre-The Nature and Culture in the Word of Tuluvas. Prof. Chinnappa has participated in National and International level Seminars and Summer Schools. He is associated with the Oral Epic Project headed by Prof. Lauri Honka, Finland. He is also a recipient of many awards and honours including Karnataka Janapada and Yakshagana Academy Award, Vasudeva Bhoopalam Endowment Award, Dr. Shivarama Karantha Endowment Award, Ku Shi Folklore Award, Karnataka State Sahithya Academy Award, Sandesha Award and Karnataka State Tulu Sahithya Academy Award.
