Submitted by Kumuda on Wed, 2016-05-18 15:16 Mangaluru: A mother along with her three children jumped into the Payaswini backwaters at Ajjavara village in Sullia, Dakshina Kannada district, on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Kusumavathi (40), Likitha (4), Rakshitha (3) and Sujan (2). A passerby who noticed that Kusumavathi taking a plunge into the river with her toddler son Sujan, alerted the police. He along with other fellow villagers and swimmers brought the bodies to the shore. It is suspected that Kusumavathi would have pushed her two daughters to the river before jumping into water with her son. Kusumavati’s husband Raviraj works as an electrician in a private school in Sullia. The police are yet to ascertain the reason behind Kusumavathi’s extreme step. The Payaswini backwaters are a few metres from her house, the police said.
