The deceased has been identified as Joyline Monis (24), a lecturer at St Agnes College, and daughter of John Monis, editor of a Konkani monthly magazine. According to the police, Joyline was riding a pillion with her sister when the accident took place. Her sister lost balance on the edge of the road and Joyline fell. A speeding bus (route no 15) which was passing by mowed her down killing her instantly. Joyline’s sister escaped unhurt. Soon after the incident, a huge crowd had gathered at the spot and resorted to flash protest. Police who rushed to the spot tried to bring the situation under control. Accidents have become regular on this stretch. Stating that it is built unscientifically, experts term this circle a death trap. They have demanded a flyover on the stretch to ensure safety of road users.
