Submitted by Editor on Wed, 2016-02-17 19:27 Mangaluru: Police department is fully geared up for the upcoming zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat election, said Alok Mohan, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order), in Mangaluru on Wednesday. Addressing media persons, the ADGP said out of 824 voting boots in Dakshina Kannada district, 103 booths were hypersensitive, 289 sensitive and 371 normal. “In Udupi district, out of a total of 936 booths, 51 are hypersensitive, 142 sensitive and 689 normal. In Chikamagaluru district, out of a total of 977 booths, 114 booths are hypersensitive, 301 sensitive and 523 are normal. In Mangaluru city, out of a total of 362 booths, 42 are hypersensitive, 134 sensitive and 186 normal,” he said. A total of 154 booths have been identified as naxal-affected in the western range police limits. Sixty-one of these booths fall in Dakshina Kannada district, 54 come under Udupi district and 39 fall under Chikamagaluru district,” Alok Mohan said. As a precautionary measure, police have booked cases against 3,000 men for the peaceful conduct of polls. About additional police forces, Alok Mohan said a “total of 3000 additional police forces would be added to the existing number of 2,500 policemen during the election”. “As many as 2000 home-guards also will be deployed during the election. Besides special commandos and 25 KSRP platoons will also be deployed,” he said.
